LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Louisville has been the place to be this spring.

Whether it's the 150th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs or upcoming PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, interest from around the world has fallen on Louisville. But the international events haven't been the only things going on in town for the past few months.

While most of southern Indiana experienced a total solar eclipse, people in Louisville were able to see 99% coverage. Here's a rundown of numerous events this spring that seemingly were all leading up to the first Saturday in May:

In the midst of winter, a dense fog moved through Louisville on a Thursday in late January. The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory on Jan. 25 for a cool and cloudy day in Louisville.

The heavy fog hid the city's skyline from southern Indiana.

The seventh annual Bock Fest and Wurst Fest had more than 150 vendors as crowds spent the day celebrating the German tradition that dates back to the 19th century.

Louisville Bats Opening Night

Baseball returned to Slugger Field for the spring on Friday night in front of 9,299 fans.

The Louisville Bats defeated the Indianapolis Indians 9-8 as the Triple-A baseball teams began the 2024 season. This year marks the Bats' 25th year in the ballpark. The Triple-A affiliate for the Cincinnati Reds rallied from a four-run deficit, scoring five runs in the sixth inning.

Thunder Over Louisville

Thunder Over Louisville was aired on WDRB News this year as around half a million people congregated around downtown Louisville and southern Indiana. The longest continuous fireworks show in North America is the official kickoff to the Kentucky Derby Festival.

Kentucky Derby Festival's Mini-marathon and Marathon

Thousands of runners competed in Kentucky Derby Festival's 2024 GE Appliances miniMarathon and Marathon. Both races were run entirely on the south side of the Ohio River for the first time since 2019. Runners started on Main Street near Louisville Slugger Field going through downtown and then the Portland and Russell neighborhoods. Participants then went through Old Louisville to Churchill Downs, running a lap around the historic racetrack just one week before the running of the 150th Kentucky Derby.

Kentucky Derby

The historic 150th Kentucky Derby had one of the most dramatic finishes in the race's storied history as 156,710 people visited Churchill Downs. Mystik Dan desperately fought to hang on with two challengers coming to him in the closing strides. He did, too, after a delay of several minutes while the closest three-horse photo finish since 1947 was sorted out.

PGA Championship

Xander Schauffele won the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club by sinking a birdie putt on the 18th hole in the final round. The putt pushed Schauffele to 21-under, a record score for any major championship.

Schauffele's win ended a week that drew worldwide attention on Friday morning. John Mills, a tournament volunteer, was hit by a bus and killed while trying to cross Shelbyville Road. Around an hour later, the No. 1 golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer.
