Southern Indiana bake shop enjoys sweet success with second location

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - At 3:30 a.m., most people are still sleeping.

That's not the case for the crew at Adrienne and Co. in Floyds Knobs. They are usually turning on the lights around that time.

They've already been working for hours. "We come in about midnight, and get the crew going," said Myra Martino.

They have the same name as the Jeffersonville sweets shop, but the shop in Floyds Knobs is new, and unlike the other location, is primarily focused on the savory old-fashioned donut.

There is a lot to do. "Everything is from scratch," said Myra. Workers at the store do everything from flouring to flattening to forming, as well as baking, frying, icing and filling.

The end result of all their efforts are tasty treats including long johns, apple fritters and even candied maple bacon donuts.

"We can't even fit 12 long johns in a box," said Myra.

Customers, young and old, come in droves.

Taking a new step back in time is not a recipe for instant success. "We started here from the bottom up," said Shane Martino.

The hard-earned success required the Martinos to make sacrifices. "We all decided as a family to pull together and change our careers," said Myra.

"I'm not an ironworker anymore, I'm a donut maker," said Shane.

Their mantra is a family who works together is happy together. "Family's first," said Myra.

And customers say that's the lasting impression you get at the shop. A family treating their extended family to one tasty breakfast.

"No one leaves here unless they smile," said Myra.

The family is living out their dream, their way, with some sweet results.
