LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The votes are in and the Louisville Zoo's new tiger cub has a name.
Kaji is now the name of the baby male Sumatran tiger.
Eight-year-old Skylar Bischof-Thomas, a patient at Norton Children's Hospital, was joined by Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and zoo officials to help reveal the winning name on Friday.
Nearly 5,000 people voted over the last month. The name Kaji is a combination of both the cub's parents' names, Kami and Jingga. Kami passed away in August at the age of 16.
Kaji joined the Louisville Zoo family on July 23 and is the first Sumatran tiger to be born at the zoo in over 20 years. He made his public debut earlier this year.
"One of the most important things has been monitoring the tiger and the cub along the way and making all those little adjustments as we go along," said Jill Katka, assistant curator for the zoo's Islands and Gorilla Forest exhibits.
Guests can see Kaji and Jingga in the Banjar House habitat at the Islands exhibit on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
