LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Town of Clarksville now has a new fire chief.Â
According to a news release, Brent Wilson was appointed by the Town Council as the new fire chief earlier this week. His first official day on the job was Nov. 19.
A day earlier, Wilson's family attended a pinning ceremony during a Town Council meeting.Â
Wilson has worked with the Clarksville Fire Department since 2001. During his tenure, he served as sergeant, deputy fire chief, and most recently, fire marshal.Â
Wilson earned an Associate of Science in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University, and studied Justice Administration at the University of Louisville.Â
Wilson has received several awards including Firefighter of the Year two times, Recognition of Dedication and Achievement in Fire Investigation, and a Statement of Endorsement for Fire Chief from IAFF Local 2594, according to the release.Â
Town officials said they chose Wilson to become fire chief based on his experience in departmental modernization, operational readiness, and personnel development, according to the release.Â
The council expressed gratitude for the contributions of outgoing Chief Brandon Skaggs, including the creation of the Fire Territory, the Community Health paramedicine program and the positive culture he created.
A spokesperson for the Town of Clarksville said in a written statement that Skaggs has not retired and is still with the department, and "may return to his hard rank of Captain."Â
