LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — TreeFest, Louisville's annual Arbor Day celebration, is returning for its 5th year in April.
The event, hosted by Mayor Craig Greenberg, TreesLouisville and Louisville Parks and Recreation, will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 11 at Thurman-Hutchins Park on River Road.
Volunteers will plant 100 trees through the park during the event with the help of Louisville Parks and Recreation's Urban Forestry Division. Following the tree planting, a free tree giveaway will take place. There will be 500 three-gallon, multispecies trees available to the public.
The Kentucky Division of Forestry also plans to recognize Louisville as a Tree City USA community for the 25th year.
"Louisville Parks and Recreation works every day to care for and grow Louisville’s urban forest, and TreeFest is a perfect celebration of that important work," said Michelle King, Executive Director of Louisville Parks and Recreation. "We’re proud to once again earn the Tree City USA designation, and even more proud to share our Department of Urban Forestry’s mission with the community through this event."
In addition to its environmental focus, TreeFest will offer a variety of activities for families and kids. This includes guided tree and rock climbing, nature hikes, slacklining and live music.
Food and drink vendors will also be on site.
