LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg honored the University of Louisville volleyball team Wednesday morning.
Louisville returned to the NCAA Championship in 2024 but lost to Penn State in four sets. The Cardinals have made three final four appearances in the last four seasons, including national runner-up finishes in 2022 and 2024.
"What you all accomplished was wonderful," Greenberg said." You all are amazing winners, amazing people, amazing athletes. You all are helping to continue what I have been saying for years, that Louisville is on its way to becoming the women's sports capital of the world."
Greenberg also named February as University of Louisville Women's Volleyball Month and shared a video of some local volleyball players who were inspired by the team's performance.
Last week, Dan Meske was named the team's head coach after Dani Busboom Kelly left for the same role at Nebraska, her alma mater.
