LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — UofL fans packed Louisville bars on Thursday to watch the Cards win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Louisville earned their first NCAA win since 2017 and their first under coach Pat Kelsey with the 83-79 win over USF, sending the Cards to the second round.
For some diehard fans, there are traditions when it comes to game day. The Granville Pub was packed with college students and lifelong fans alike.
One group of them go to the bar for every away game and sits at the exact same table for every game.
"I love this bunch of guys," said Kerry Ferrell. I know some fans have been down on them because they didn't have the 'expected season,' or whatever, but we finished two spots higher than last year. Without our best player. I love this group of guys."
Fans believe Kelsey is cooking up something special on the court.
"I like the coach," said one fan. "(He's) a good guy as far as coaching young men and getting them together and getting their heads set every game. He's good at that, so they just have to buy in and play."
Next up, the Cards will face the winner of the Michigan State this Saturday.
The UofL women's basketball team is hosting NCAA Tournament play, with their first game set for Saturday at noon at the KFC Yum! Center.
