LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A water main break at 15th and Jefferson streets in west Louisville opened a large hole in the road Tuesday morning.
Pictures show the hole is nearly the size of a car.
The Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District said the main broke around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Residents around the area lost water access for several hours, but it was coming back on for some by noon Tuesday.
"I got up around 4 this morning to get some water and there was no water so I was wondering what was going on until I came out and seen all the mud and stuff out here," said Lee Schultz who lives across from the sinkhole. Â
In the hole, a brick wall and wooden railroad ties could be seen Tuesday morning.
The Louisville Water Company is on scene as well, assessing the damage. The intersection is expected to be closed through the day.
Crews are hoping to get the hole fixed within the next few days.
