LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nearly 100 young people were honored Sunday for their achievements despite facing adversity.
The Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, along with Claudette and Jim Patton recognized young people who achieved after surviving encounters with gun violence, poverty and disabilities.
The first Amplify 502 Awards was held at the Mellwood Art Center. Those honored were between the ages of 13 to 24 years old.
"We want this town, this city, this state to know about the wonderful youth that we have that are really our next leaders who are our true workers that deserved to be recognized," said Patton, co-founder of Amplify 502.Â
Amplify 502 wants to continue its partnership with the city and promote youth throughout the area.
