LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Crews with the Zoneton Fire Protection District joinedĀ firefighters from Shepherdsville, Zoneton and Southeast Bullitt Fire Departments Monday to train for rope rescues.Ā
The training comes less than a month after a Louisville firefighter plucked a woman from the cab of her semitruck as it dangled over the Ohio River on March 1. The Zoneton Fire Department said on its Facebook page that recent events prompted the training.Ā
"Monday evening a joint training session was held for firefighters from Shepherdsville, Zoneton and Southeast Bullitt Fire Departments. They trained on ropes and knots along with "haul systems" used to rescue victims from precarious situations. The rescue ropes, webbing, and hardware (pulleys, etc.) can support thousands of pounds. This is specialized equipment and not the kind you get from the home store."
The post went on to say that the training was just a "small part" of the numerous skills and knowledge needed to rescue people from dangerous situations.
