Louisville Metro Police reported 17 homicides in March, a record for the month. Another 48 people were wounded by gunfire in March.

Louisville's violent trend of gun-related deaths and injuries continued in October, marking the 21st straight month the city has reported double-digit homicides.

Kosair Charities sponsored the visit that was attended by more than 50 children and their family members. The visitors were educated by zoo staff about the importance of caring for animals, according to 2X.

Local anti-violence activist Christopher 2X says January of 2021 surpassed the previous homicide record for the month. 

The activist says he's been working with the center for years to help deflect impact violence has on kids.
