This evening an asteroid will pass less than 6200 miles from the center of the Earth. That means the asteroid will be a little over 2000 miles above the surface from the Earth at it closest.

Saturday morning an asteroid will make a "close" pass by Earth, but it poses no threat to us. At it's closest, asteroid 2016 AJ193 will still be almost 9 times the distances of the moon.

Good news - Earth did not get hit by an asteroid this weekend! This is expected to be the biggest asteroid to pass near Earth this year, measuring about 0.6 miles in diameter. This was also a noteworthy pass because Asteroid 2001 FO32 is expected to be one of the fastest fly byes the Earth has seen.
