With the help of Kosair Charities, Emmanuel Baptist Church hopes to give out more than 1,000 new backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies.

Councilwoman Donna Purvis, D-5, and the group Men of Quality hosted a back to school giveaway and cookout on Friday at the Omega Center in west Louisville.
Hundreds of kids served by Catholic Charities were able to grab brand new backpacks filled with school supplies.
The events are open to all, regardless of income.
