Dr. Kristina Box, Indiana's state health commissioner, is retiring at the end of the month.

The mothers get free guidance during pregnancy and for 12 months after the baby is born.

Indiana’s mortality rate among white and Hispanic newborns improved last year, but deaths among Black infants jumped from 11.0 deaths per 1,000 live births during 2019 to 13.2 deaths in 2020. 

The 15-member Governor's Public Health Commission, established in an executive order issued by Gov. Eric Holcomb, was announced Wednesday. 

Indiana ranks 41st of the 50 states according to percentage of total population that has been fully vaccinated, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.

Goodin says the county could be left paying the medical bills for a number of HIV-positive inmates.

The state said there are more vaccines available than people wanting to get the shot.

The state will now more closely follow CDC recommendations rather than the strategy it has taken since the beginning of the pandemic. 

Box said the error won't change how many cases have been reported since the start of the pandemic.
