There are just 18 days until a full closure of Interstate 65 in Louisville, and Louisville Metro Police are preparing.
The I-65 Central Corridor Improvement Project will close a large stretch of the interstate between the Watterson Expressway and downtown Louisville to replace aging bridges along the interstate.
The area is part of an ongoing project converting Logan and Shelby streets from one-way roads to two-way traffic patterns.
The sidewalks will be expanded, more trees and landscaping will be added, and new curb extensions will create seating areas.
Expect delays as rolling roadblocks go into place during the day to help prepare the busy interchange at I-264 and U.S. 42 for the added traffic.
Work in Zone 2 is expected to last three to six months.
City leaders said crews faced several challenges creating the shared path along South Beckley Station Road to keep people safe.
The Chemical Safety Board will return to the site on Payne Street in the next few weeks for further testing before releasing it.
The River Road project has been underway for two weeks.
