Officers were called around 10:12 p.m. to the area of Ormsby Lane and Westport Road on a report of an injury collision.
LMPD's Professional Standards Unit, which investigates LMPD policy violations by police department members, launched an investigation into the crash. Investigators found Begel was driving 95 mph in a 45 mph zone on Fern Valley Road without her lights and sirens activated.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the two victims as Gary Wright, 77, of Owensboro, and Tami Jo Hawkins, 63, of West Point.
The LMPD Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
The department identified that officer Friday as Alyssa Begel. According to her personnel files, she was disciplined just last year in a different crash.
