The contract now goes to the full Metro Council for a final vote.

The proposed ordinance comes after a WDRB investigation uncovered sick puppies being sold at a local pet shop, Puppygram on Hurstbourne Parkway. 

At Wednesday's Metro Council Public Safety Committee meeting, corrections officers said some are so overworked that they've fallen asleep on the drive home and at least one has wrecked their car.

Councilmembers hoped a 2019 law would cut down on the number of converters stolen from vehicles.

The plan to create a civilian review board was amended by a committee Wednesday.

Metro Council will take a final, deciding vote on the plan next week.

But council could pursue those restrictions in the future in separate legislation.

Because of budget problems, the department is expected to employ 75 to 100 fewer officers by the end of the fiscal year.

The meeting was in response to a fire in St. Matthews that St. Matthews firefighters weren't allowed to fight.
