Toyota is recalling about 655,000 Camry vehicles globally due to a display error that may deactivate safety indicators. Most of these cars were sold in the U.S., affecting over 508,000 model year 2025-2026 Camry Hybrids. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the 7-inch display can become blank at startup — and that safety indicators like turn signals and hazard lights may also not function as a result. This increases crash risks. Toyota will notify owners to bring their vehicles to a dealer for a free software update. The company confirmed its recall affects markets in North America, the Middle East, Asia and some countries in other regions.

Two drivers of Mercedes AMG cars have filed a class action lawsuit against the luxury car company, saying that the AMG logo on their driver’s seat gets so hot that it literally brands them and causes burns. A court document filed earlier this week in California say plaintiffs Gabriel Lahijani and Karendeep “Karina” Bath allege the front seats of certain Mercedes AMG vehicles have a design defect where the raised metallic AMG logo can be expected to touch a person's upper back, neck, or shoulder. The plaintiffs want Mercedes to compensate them for medical and other costs. Mercedes-Benz couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.

New estimates show road deaths are declining in the U.S. and globally. A study published Monday in Lancet Public Health reveals global road injuries and deaths each fell more than 30% from 1990 to 2023. However, progress varies by country, with poorer nations seeing less improvement. In the U.S., traffic deaths rose until 2021 but have since declined. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported fatalities peaked at over 43,000 in 2021 and dropped to about 36,600 last year. The World Health Organization has prioritized road safety for over two decades, and a U.N. meeting this week is addressing this issue.

Federal safety investigators say the driver of a runaway Tesla that killed a grandmother in her home last month had pressed the accelerator to full speed, suggesting the vehicle’s self-driving software was not to blame. The National Transportation Safety Board concluded Wednesday that the driver had overridden that feature by pressing on the pedal before slamming into the Katy, Texas, home and killing a 76-year-old woman in the front room. The crash drew national attention because Tesla CEO Elon Musk is seeking to assure the public its self-driving feature is safe as he prepares to turn Teslas already on the road into fully automatic vehicles.
