The decision was made Tuesday after a water main break on Highway 44.
A water main break happened to an eight-inch section of pipe under 20 feet of floodwater on Highway 70 (Elkhorn Road) just east of Highway 76 (Knifley Road) in Taylor County.
The main break occurred near the intersection of 3rd and W. Kenton streets around 8:30 a.m. in the Wilder Park neighborhood Sunday.
The water main break was reported near the entrance of Home Depot on State Street.
Earlier this month, Louisville Water launched a multi-year project to rehabilitate a 130-year-old water main along Oak and Dumesnil streets.
The intersection experienced significant damage.
The company usually sees a spike in breaks when the water’s temperature drops.
No timeframe was given to how long the boil water advisory will remain in effect.
It's unclear how long the restrooms will be closed.
As a result, the city has banned all "non-essential" water use for the next 72 hours, with the ban set to end Thursday morning.
