LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Three-sport athletes used to be a thing. Now it is very rare these days on the high school level with specialization and sports being played year round.
Lauren Campisano is showing that it can still be done and at a very high level.
She started out playing softball and basketball at Assumption High School. Field Hockey was added in her junior and senior years.
All she did there was lead the team in scoring both years; 19 goals as a junior and 37 goals as a senior on a state championship team.
Her three coaches rave about not only her athletic ability but the fact that she has all the intangibles as well.
"She leads. She elevates everyone around her," said Assumption basketball coach Caryn Kovatch. "She does it in all three sports. Man, her competitive edge is unmatched. I respect the heck out of her work ethic. She brings it every time, whether it's practice, whether it's a shoot-around, whether it's a game. You always know what you're going to get with Lauren, and it's what you want. If you could replicate her, man, you'd have stats in everything."
Campisano said she occasionally feels pretty exhausted, but that you have to make time for what you love, and she loves sports. She also finds time to get mostly A's and B's in school.
As a shortstop, she is currently hitting over .400 for the state's 3rd-ranked team, going on to play softball at Western Kentucky.
Campisano is the youngest of four children and her mom Teri was also a three-sport athlete at Assumption and also is in the Assumption and Kent State Halls of Fame. Her mom also played field hockey in college.
Maybe Campisano will join her mom in the Assumption Hall of Fame some day.
