LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- We are already at Week 4 of the college football season, but Louisville is preparing to play game No. 3, and Georgia Tech, its opponent, is getting ready for game No. 5.
Kentucky, which will play its fourth game, has not scored a touchdown in two weeks.
And Indiana is trying to go 4-0 for the first time since 2020.
So, we're still dealing with a bit of screwy math. It's especially screwy for our intrepid pickers. Eric Crawford went 3-2 last week against the spread and still lost money, while Rick Bozich went 0-5 — to predictable results.
Which brings us to this new week. Conference play begins for Louisville. Can Kentucky recover from last week's oh-so-close loss to No. 1 Georgia?
Let's see what the guys think.
Wagering recap:
- Crawford: Last week 3-2, lost $100. For the season: 9-6, bankroll at $1,150.
- Bozich: Last wee 0-5, lost $210. For the season: 5-10, bankroll at $800.
This week's picks:
Georgia Tech (+10.5) at Louisville, Saturday, 3:30 p.m.
Crawford: Louisville has played two low-difficulty games and then took a week off. That's not how the schedule (which included a home game against Indiana in Week 2) was originally designed, and it's not the optimal way to come into your ACC opener against a team playing its fifth game and third in-conference. I like the Cards to win, but not to cover. I'm taking Georgia Tech and the points for $50.
Bozich: Louisville to cover for $50. Tech's big win over Florida State loses luster every week, and the Cards had an extra week to prepare.
Ohio U. (+18.5) at Kentucky, Saturday, 12:45 p.m.
Crawford: I definitely like Kentucky to win this game, but the Wildcats haven't found the end zone in a couple of weeks and even though last week's one-point loss to Georgia was disappointing, they also poured a lot into it. It wouldn't surprise me to see Kentucky a bit sluggish in this one, and Stoops content to pound out a conservative victory. Taking Ohio U. and the points for $25.
Bozich: Kentucky for $50. The Wildcats need to defend the way they did against Southern Miss and Georgia.
Eric Crawford and Rick Bozich college football picks for Week 4.
Charlotte (+28) at Indiana, Saturday, noon
Crawford: Indiana to cover for $150. The Hoosiers are rolling, and I don't think Curt Cignetti is a let-off-the-gas guy. He's already on his players about being able to handle success. I think he'll have to be on them about it even more next week. I'm riding this train for at least one more game.
Bozich: IU for $25. I suspect a Hoosier letdown after their big win in the Rose Bowl but I've been burned betting against Curt Cignetti.
N.C. State (+17) at Clemson, Saturday, noon.
Crawford: I don't like this game, because I don't think N.C. State is as bad as it has played. And I'm not yet sold on Clemson at all. I'll take the Tigers to cover at home, but won't invest much. Clemson for $25.
Bozich: Clemson for $25. The Tigers are better and need every style point they can muster tacked onto this victory.
Florida (-4) at Mississippi State, Saturday, noon
Crawford: I know Mississippi State has looked really bad, but they'll be fired up with all of the Gator blood in the water. I think they'll have just enough cowbell at home, especially getting four points. Mississippi State for $25.
Bozich: Florida for $20. The Gators have been terrible. The Bulldogs have been worse.
