LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Male High School football was supposed to start the season with two home games. Instead, the Bulldogs have played three straight games on the road. Now, it's finally time for the home opener.

Male is one of a number of Jefferson County Public Schools getting new artificial turf fields this season. There were some delays, which led to Male's unscheduled road games.

The Dogs went 2-1, with wins at Butler and Ballard and a loss to St. Xavier. Now, after a bye week, workers are putting the finishing touches on the new field to have it ready for Friday night when the top-ranked Trinity Shamrocks come calling.

Male Head Coach Chris Wolfe is excited for the home opener but even more excited to have a regular field to practice on as the season goes along. The practice field the team often has to use behind the stadium is only 55 yards long with water issues when it rains and is pretty worn out.

"Just the idea that we can go down on a lined field that's perfect and practice," said Wolfe. "We won't know what to do with ourselves. We'll be standing around like 'wow, this is how other teams do it.'"

Trinity comes into the game at 3-1 with the lone defeat coming at Cincinnati Moeller. The game starts at 7 p.m. on the new turf.
