LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jacksonville State, which is located in central Alabama, not northeast Florida, was not supposed to be the program the University of Louisville football program played in its second game of the 2024 season.

That team was supposed to be Indiana.

But in attempt to help embattled Tom Allen survive as their coach, the Hoosiers bought their way out of the final two seasons of a three-game contract with the Cards after U of L defeated IU, 21-14, last season.

Indiana replaced U of L with Western Illinois, which ranks No. 248 in Jeff Sagarin's computer power formula. IU is favored to win that game by 42 points Friday night in Bloomington.

U of L replaced IU with Jacksonville State, No. 121. Both teams should win to move to 2-0. With next Saturday off, U of L will have to wait two weeks before the Cardinals are tested by visiting Georgia Tech.

Indiana paid its way out of the deal by writing a $1 million check and then also paid off Allen. The Hoosiers' exhibition season will pause next Saturday when they visit Pasadena, California, to play UCLA in the Rose Bowl.
