LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A pond in Bloomington, Indiana, was temporarily renamed in honor of the Hoosiers' national championship run.
According to a news release Tuesday, the retention pond at Miller-Showers Park was renamed to "D'Angelo's Pond."
The name comes from Indiana star defensive back D'Angelo Ponds, who intercepted Oregon's first pass of the Peach Bowl and returned it for a touchdown.
Officials said the pond will be recognized for the remainder of the week, as the national championship between Indiana and Miami is set for Monday, Jan. 19.
"This is peak Bloomington," Mayor Kerry Thomson said in a news release. "It's playful, communal, and exactly the kind of wholesome quirk that makes our city so special."
The pond is located in downtown Bloomington and captures runoff, slowing water during heavy rain to help keep local waterways safer downstream.
