LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The stage is set.
No. 1 Indiana has one game remaining to complete a historic undefeated season in Curt Cignetti's second year at the helm. Only No. 10 Miami stands in the way as the Hurricanes went from being the last team to make the College Football Playoff field to earning a spot in the national championship.
It'll be a homecoming for Indiana's Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza and star defensive back D'Angelo Ponds in Miami as the game takes place on the Hurricanes' home field.
The Hoosiers have been unstoppable in the playoffs so far after defeating No. 9 Alabama and No. 5 Oregon by an average of 34.5 points. Mendoza has also been dominant behind center, with more touchdowns (8) in the playoffs than incompletions (5).
But Miami is coming into the game riding a seven-game winning streak with three wins in the playoff already. The Hurricanes are led by veteran quarterback Carson Beck and, on the other side of the ball, is one of the best defensive players in the country, Rueben Bain Jr.
Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti credits veteran players, disciplined training, and process for Indiana’s national title run.
