LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky will host an NCAA Regional this week as it begins its road to the College World Series in Omaha.

The NCAA unveiled the baseball tournament bracket Monday, with the Wildcats named one of the top four overall seeds. Indiana State, Illinois and Western Michigan will travel to Lexington in the double-elimination regional, which will begin play Friday.

Kentucky finished the season with a 40-14 record, 22-8 in the SEC. This is the Wildcats' second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. They advanced out of regional play as the No. 12 overall seed last year before being swept in the best-of-three Super Regional series to LSU.

Indiana is the No. 3 seed in Tennessee's region. The Hoosiers, who were on the bubble, snuck in and will face Southern Miss on Friday to begin regional play. It's also the Hoosiers' second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. They lost to Kentucky twice in Lexington to end their season in regional play in 2023.

Louisville missed the tournament for the third time in the last four years. Prior to 2020, the Cardinals had made the tournament in 12 of the previous 13 seasons.
