LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Good Cheer roared around the far turn in Friday's Longines Kentucky Oaks to win her seventh start in as many races on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs.

La Cara held the lead for most of the race, but Good Cheer, who's trained by Brad Cox and went off as an overwhelming 7-5 favorite, took the lead at the top of the stretch after being forced five wide at the turn.

She roared to the lead and went on to win by two lengths in a race attended by 100,910. Drexel Hill and Bless the Broken finished in second and third, respectively.

Good Cheer improves to a perfect 7-for-7 in her racing career with the win. This was the third win in the Kentucky Oaks for Cox.

Races were delayed Friday when a storm rolled through Louisville.

Thirteen horses made up the field after Gulfstream Oaks winner Five G, trained by George Weaver, was scratched Thursday.

The day was met with an obstacle as a severe thunderstorm moved through Louisville just before 4 p.m., halting the race schedule and forcing fans inside to seek shelter. But it was just a delay of about 20 minutes, and fans again packed the stands and the infield ahead of the Oaks race.
