CHARLESTOWN, Ind. (WDRB) -- Lanesville girls basketball has known great success in recent years. This year is no exception with a 7th consecutive sectional title earned last week.
But things are a little different this year.
Head coach Angie Hinton has won 88 percent of her games in 7 seasons at Lanesville, 94 percent in the last four. That includes back-to-back state 1A titles the last two seasons, success that by Indiana High School rules, automatically bumped them up to class 2A this season.
Not much changed in the regular season as Hinton has always scheduled a mix of higher class schools. She said the postseason has already felt a little different. The goal was to win another sectional title and that was accomplished by winning three more games to push the Lady Eagles record to 20-3.
Now comes a big test against the top-ranked team in 2A, South Knox. That game will be played at Charlestown High School Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. The Lanesville girls got to practice at Charlestown Wednesday.
The Lady Eagles have been led by three seniors, who have done a lot of winning in their four years — Hylton Brumley, Shelby Allen and Hadley Crosier.
Crosier came back from a devastating torn ACL suffered during the first half of last year's state title game. She said it took time to feel comfortable this season, but feels like she is there now.
And Crosier's dreams of playing college basketball remained intact. She has signed to play next fall at Maryville University in St. Louis.
She and the rest of the Lady Eagles are hoping to continue their senior season beyond Saturday's regional test.
