LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- On the day the NCAA men's college basketball portal opened and five days after Kenny Payne was fired as the University of Louisville coach, two Cardinal players announced their intentions to transfer.
A U of L spokesman said Monday that freshmen Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams put their names in the portal Monday.
Although at least two other players have gone home with plans to finish spring semester classes remotely, sources with the program remain optimistic most of the remaining roster will remain with U of L — at least until Payne's replacement is named. The only exception is sophomore forward Tre White, a player many expect to depart.
Glenn, a former star at Male High School, started 11 of 32 games, averaging 3.9 points and 3.6 rebounds. He scored a season-best 17 points against Pittsburgh but failed to score in nine minutes in Louisville's season-ending game against North Carolina State.
Williams also played in all 32 games but started only four. He struggled with his outside shot late in the season, finishing with a 3-point percentage of 28.7. Williams averaged 5.3 points and 1.3 rebounds.
After scoring in double figures six times in seven games during a stretch that began against Pepperdine Dec. 17, Williams scored 14 points in Louisville's season-ending seven-game losing streak.
Former Louisville guard Koron Davis, who was dismissed from the team in December, also put his name in the portal.
