LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville football is losing another key assistant coach.

Offensive line coach Richard Owens is leaving the program to become the tight ends coach at Alabama, according to a report from Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.

Owens, a former U of L tight end himself, spent the past three seasons coaching the Cardinals’ offensive line under Jeff Brohm.

He is the fourth coach to depart Brohm’s staff this offseason, following defensive coordinator Ron English and defensive line coach Mark Hagen and tight ends coach Ryan Wallace.

Louisville | Kentucky | Indiana | Eric Crawford

Owens, a Louisville native and 2004 graduate of the university, previously coached at UAB, Georgia Southern and South Alabama.

His offensive lines helped Louisville rank in the top 20 nationally in fewest sacks allowed and fewest tackles for loss allowed in 2023. Center Bryan Hudson earned first-team All-ACC honors under Owens and won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the league’s top lineman.

A former NFL tight end with the Vikings and Rams, Owens also coached tight ends at U of L in 2018.
