LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- University of Louisville volleyball was selected as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

The Cardinals are making their 33rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Louisville will host Chicago State on Friday at the KFC Yum! Center.

If Louisville (25-5, 17-3) were to advance, the Cardinals would play the winner of Illinois and Northern Iowa.

"I feel like we’ve done a great job this whole year to get a top 4-seed. That is the goal: to give yourself the best situation possible to have a great run in the tournament, and I really felt like we did that," Louisville head coach Dani Busboom Kelly said in a news release. "We have a tough draw. There are some really good teams on our side before we can even think about the Final Four, but just the relief of getting that 4th-seed, so we know we don’t have to travel is really nice."

Louisville finished tied for second in the ACC title race. Pittsburgh, Nebraska and Penn State joined Louisville in earning top seeds in this year's tournament.

64 teams will compete in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. For the third year, the top 32 teams were seeded nationally in pods of four and placed within four regions.

The Cardinals, ranked No. 3 in the nation, have played seven of the other teams ranked among the nation’s top dozen.

The national semifinals and championship final will be hosted by the University of Louisville.
