LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Pierce Clarkson, a highly touted quarterback who spent two seasons at the University of Louisville before transferring briefly to Ole Miss and then UCLA, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon with great bodily injury, a felony, according to The Los Angeles Times.
The newspaper reported late Sunday night that Clarkson had been suspended from UCLA’s team after his arrest by the Los Angeles Police Department with bail set at $30,000. He was released from custody and faces an Oct. 3 hearing. The weapon involved was not a firearm, according to LAPD.
In a statement, UCLA said "We are aware of the charges against Pierce Clarkson. He has been indefinitely suspended from all team activity pending the outcome of the legal process. This situation will be evaluated by the UCLA Office of Student Conduct and any further action taken will be in accordance with that evaluation and University policy."
While no information has been confirmed about the reason for the arrest, a source told FOX11 in Los Angeles the arrest may stem from an allegation of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a domestic incident.
Clarkson made headlines as a five-star prospect out of St. John Bosco in California who, when he signed with Louisville, had billboards promoting his commitment placed around the city.
In the end, however, he played little at Louisville, appearing in just three games over two seasons, completing four of his six passes.
At UCLA, he was a top backup to Tennessee transfer Nico Iamaleava, though he was not present at UCLA’s loss to Nevada on Saturday in Las Vegas.
