LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Racing Louisville FC coach Bev Yanez will miss Sunday’s friendly against Lexington Sporting Club following the loss of a pregnancy earlier this week — the second miscarriage she has endured in as many seasons.
The club confirmed the news in a statement Friday morning.
“As you may know, last year Bev Yanez suffered a miscarriage and, unfortunately, I’m sharing on her behalf that she lost another baby this week,” general manager Caitlyn Flores Milby said. “Bev will not be with the team today or on the bench Sunday. We are giving her and her family time and space to process. This is a very hard time for her. She’s been through it, but everyone here is behind her.”
Yanez, 36, is in her second season leading Racing Louisville after being named head coach in late 2023. She and her husband, former Columbus Crew midfielder Othaniel Yáñez, have two daughters.
Last July, Yanez publicly shared that she had suffered a miscarriage, calling it “an indescribable hurt,” but also opening up in hopes of connecting with and encouraging others who have experienced similar grief.
Team captain Arin Wright said the players are rallying behind their coach.
“We feel for Bev in this moment,” Wright said. “This team is here to support her in any way and capacity that she needs us to. We’re a family here and we’re going to have her back and her family’s back all the way through this.
“I know it’s disappointing and the team feels that. But I think a way that we can show her that we care is coming together as a group for this game on Sunday and playing for her and having that in the back of our minds for every minute of the game.”
Yanez has guided the club to a 6-2-5 record in what could be the most successful season of the franchise's young history. After the first half of NWSL play, it sits in position to make the league's playoffs for the first time, in seventh place, and had scored multiple goals in four straight games before the league's international break.
Assistant coaches will handle team duties in Yanez’s absence for Sunday’s 6 p.m. friendly against Lexington SC at Lynn Family Stadium.
