LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Weeds can wreak havoc on gardeners and it’s the last thing you might want to deal with it.
“The best way even though it’s not a fun way, unless you have a cocktail in hand, is hand pulling,” Jeff Wallitsch of Wallitsch Gardens jokingly said.
He offers this advice to help you get rid of your weeds.
- Pull the weeds after it rained or water the ground yourself. It helps loosen up the soil and the roots.
- Make sure to get the entire root out of the ground.
- To prevent further growth after pulling weeds, use a granular weed preventer. It will kill weed seeds, not existing weeds.
- Lay down landscaping fabric, but do not use plastic. It must be porous for water to get through.
- Mulch can also help prevent weeds.
- Chemical products will definitely kill weeds, but make sure to read the label first because some can kill grass and shrubs as well.
