NEW ALBANY, In. (WDRB) — Thousands of children in southern Indiana are heading back to school this morning!

New Albany Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation heads back to school today.
Nearly 12,000 students start the 2026-2027 school year. The corporation includes 1 early learning center, 9 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 2 high schools, 1 vocational center, and 1 adult center.
Students have to stay off their cell phones during school this year. The "bell-to-bell" state law requires all public and charter schools to ban student use of personal wireless communication devices throughout the school day from the first bell to the final dismissal.
The ban includes cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, tablets, and portable gaming systems.
