LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Mt. Washington Mayor Stuart Owen is beginning his second year in office and he is ready to build on the things his team created in 2023.
Owen visited WDRB Mornings on Wednesday to talk about his work over the last year and what the city is planning for in the future.
In Owen's campaign, he emphasized four main issues he wanted to fix in Mt. Washington. One of those was revitalizing Old Bardstown Road.
Owen and his team have been busy laying out the foundation for the project and updating ordinances that will help them ramp up the space as well as talking with the owners of a group of vacant buildings on Main Street about tearing those down.
"The biggest challenge we have faced is infrastructure and how it is always moving and changing with our growth," Owen said. "We have had tremendous growth over the last 10 years, so it has created challenges with our infrastructure."
The city has created a summer youth program that will kick off this summer, giving a great opportunity for individuals to learn leadership skills and to have a positive space to go to during the summer break.
Owen and his team were able to gather the funding needed to finish the roundabout project that the city started working on before he took office.Â
"Mt. Washington is a great community," Owen said. "We have a lot to offer and a great location to be close to businesses in the Louisville area."
