LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville producer and songwriter Stephen "Static Major" Garrett was recently given a huge lifetime achievement.
Major was nominated and chosen to be part of the Greater Louisville Pride Foundation's Hometown Heroes - Class of 2024.
The local producer and songwriter put big names like Destiny's Child and Lil Wayne on the music map.
Local radio announcer and friend of Static Major, Mark Gunn, joined WDRB Mornings on Monday to talk about Static and his recent honor.
Gunn explained how overdue Static was for this honor, because of the wealth of material he had and the impact he had on Louisville's music scene.
"The influence he had on singers and other performers in this area is something that is very, very deep," Gunn stated on WDRB Mornings.
Gunn started the nomination process back in 2008, shortly after Static passed away. He submitted his nomination to Hometown Heroes, and then the waiting game started.
After the nominations are chosen, funds have to be raised in order to display the banner and have the celebration.
Luckily, all of the funds were already raised by the time Static was chosen to be in the Class of 2024, given the time period in between.
"Other than the crazy talent he had, Static was a wonderful friend, a wonderful little brother, a wonderful husband, a wonderful father, and a wonderful child," Gunn emotionally explained on WDRB Mornings. "This was a beautiful human being."
Discussions are currently being held as to where and when Static's banner will be displayed.
