LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Keith Kaiser joined the Kentucky Opera at the Brown Theatre as they prepare to present Kern & Hammerstein's classic musical SHOW BOAT.

The Mighty Mississippi provides the backdrop for this rich production Thursday, February 18th through Sunday, Febraury 21st.

The production rounds out the Brown-Forman 2015/16 Season with custom-built period costumes and a grand operatic staging.

A groundbreaking departure from the conventional musical theatre productions of the 1920s, SHOW BOAT is a Kern & Hammerstein American classic showcasing life on a Mississippi riverboat.

Combining the spectacle of glorious singing and staging, with sumptuous costumes and familiar tunes, SHOW BOAT changed the face of musical theater forever.

With its three dimensional characters, Kern & Hammerstein explored the nature of prejudice and themes of enduring love.

Classic songs from the show include "Ol' Man River," "Bill," "Make Believe," and "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man."

The cast includes local Louisville soprano Emily Albrink as Magnolia, Keith Phares as Ravenal, Alyson Cambridge as Julie LaVerne, Derrick Parker as Joe, and Angela Renee Simpson as Queenie.

No less than 23 local singers will also appear in the production's extensive chorus.

SHOW BOAT will be conducted by Joseph Mechavich, and will be staged by David Gately with choreography by Barbara Cullen.
