CHARLESTOWN, Ind. (WDRB) -- Laura Wood and Brian Perlis have become experts in unpacking.
"We have moved more times than I can count on my 10 digits," said Wood.
Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Alaska, and North Carolina are all on the list. Moving around is a major requirement for her job.
"I joined the Army through the Army ROTC," Wood explained.
When Wood got word that Fort Knox was next, she took the reins in a search for a new home.
"My wife is like 'look at this house, look at that house,'" explained Perlis. "My first question was: does it have a moat?"
Brian who grew up liking Dungeons and Dragons, maybe a little too much had already discovered the epic listing for a Charlestown, Indiana castle.
"You round that corner, and it's just in your face," Perlis said with a smile.
"We still have a whole lot of traffic that slows down, stops, and looks," neighbor, Don Lyvers said.
Chivalry is not dead. Perlis knew he couldn't be the king of the castle without Wood's approval.
"It's always about the queen," he said.
The matching woodshed, unicorn fixtures, and spiral staircase-- Wood loved it all. The realtor was called, the sale was made. The throne, or a couple of them inside were theirs.
Lyvers watched as his previous neighbor built the home by hand. They were medieval times around the neighborhood, known as the 90s.
"He said, 'I'm going to build a castle across the street,'" Lyvers remembered. "I went, 'a castle, hmm."'
"You see all the work that he put into it, and the hundreds of thousands of hours, it's a special house," Perlis added.
In two to five years, when Wood considers retiring the army fatigues, "the Lord and Lady of Falcon Road" may pack up again, but as "Game of Thrones" taught them, winter is always coming.
"This is the winter castle," said Perlis with a smile. "This is winter keep, and we'll have summer keep up in Alaska."
