LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Great Gatsby Musical is coming to Louisville.
WDRB's Keith Kaiser explores the historic Seelbach Hotel, the inspiration for the story.
Set in the Roaring Twenties, The Great Gatsby follows eccentric and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby, who will stop at nothing in the pursuit of the lost love of his youth, Daisy Buchanan. Now, the epic tale gets told through song.
The Tony Award-winning production comes to life across North American stages, and it also has a Louisville connection.
While in Army training at nearby Camp Taylor, famed author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, often visited The Seelbach on weekend passes to sip Kentucky bourbon and smoke expensive cigars. During his visits, Fitzgerald encountered gangster George Remus, who became the model for Jay Gatsby in "The Great Gatsby."
His experiences in The Seelbach's elegant rooms inspired him to use the hotel as a model during the writing of his classic 1920s novel "The Great Gatsby."
