The National Weather Service office in Paducah, Kentucky, is hosting their Fall Severe Weather Safety and Preparedness Campaign this week. Keep in mind the data presented here is for the area the Paducah office covers; it's not coming from the Louisville office.Â
Fall can be another active weather season because we are transitioning from the warm, summer months to the cool, winter months. That clash of warm and cold air masses can create more active weather this time of year like it does in the spring. Here are a few examples of those strong storms during the fall:Â
This is a great time to make sure you know how you will receive weather alerts when storms are in the forecast and what to do if a severe storms is headed your way. Make sure you have a way to receive watches and warnings like a NOAA weather radio or an app on the phone like the WDRB Weather app. When a Watch is issued, it's time to Watch the weather. Make sure you know what's in the forecast and that you have a plan for what you need to do if a bad storm heads your way. When a Warning is issued, it's time to take action. Put that plan into place - go to your safe place, check on loved ones in the path of the storm, etc.Â
