LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville leaders partnered with the Metropolitan Sewer District to paint a mural on a 6,000-foot section of flood wall Louisville's Portland neighborhood.
The goal is to provide an eye-catching entryway to Waterfront Park’s newest attractions.
Plans call for the 6,000-foot mural to be installed on the flood wall near 1000 Rowan St. at the 10th Street Floodwall. One wall is currently marked by a painted "Mural Coming Soon" message with a QR code that provides information about the opportunity.
Officials said they hope it will express community identity and invite more people to visit the waterfront.
"We'll transform this imposing structure into a welcoming and engaging gateway into our newest expansion of Waterfront Park," said Deborah Bilitski, president and executive of Waterfront Park.
The Louisville Metro Office of Arts + Creative Industries is calling for interested artists in Kentuckiana to submit their design for the mural.

The Commission on Public Art will review artists’ qualifications and proposals, which will be selected Sept. 16. Installations will begin on Sept. 30 and continue through Oct. 31.
The project is expected to cost about $115,000, and Waterfront Park matched the city's contribution. Officials also announced an additional $100,000 for more mural projects beyond the waterfront.
