LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Ford Motor Company is considering a potential $2 billion investment to expand operations at Louisville's Kentucky Truck Plant.
In his weekly Team Kentucky update Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear said the company is evaluating a strategic investment that would expand manufacturing operations at the plant on Chamberlain Lane, including development of approximately 70 acres adjacent to the existing plant — land Ford purchased in April 2025 for $41 million.
"Ford has been a driver of economic growth in the Commonwealth for over 100 years," Beshear said.
Ford currently employs about 12,000 people in Kentucky and supports nearly 6,000 retirees across the state.
The proposed Louisville expansion would add to several recent major Ford investments in Kentucky.
Last August, Ford announced a separate $2 billion investment in the plant to convert the facility for production of a new electric pickup truck, a project expected to support about 2,200 jobs. That truck is expected to reach customers in 2027.
Ford also announced in May a separate $2 billion investment in Glendale, where the company plans to repurpose the former BlueOval SK site into a manufacturing hub for energy storage systems, also expected to create at least 2,100 jobs.
"We at Team Kentucky are working close with the company because we want them to invest another $2 billion, we want them to create new jobs," Beshear said. "And we're excited that Ford continues to choose Kentucky over and over and over to be the site of some of their most exciting announcements."
Beshear said the investment is still in the evaluation phase, and no final decision has been announced.
