Food giveaway at Shawnee Library

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A community food giveaway in west Louisville on Wednesday helped teach local kids how to give back.

Junior Black Campers, alongside Change Today Change Tomorrow, hosted a free grocery giveaway at the Shawnee Public Library. Junior Black Campers is a youth mentorship program for youth in general and Black children in particular.

The campers chose to work to meet the community's immediate need: food access. The groups received an abundance of donations and gave away all kinds of food to west Louisville residents in need.

Parent Ronell Browder said the program "is a great thing, because it shows the kids how to give back, it shows the kids how to be thankful, how to be grateful, and to also look out for one another. If somebody is in need -- help those who are in need. So this also shows the kids how to be helpful, and how to treat people how you want to be treated."

Junior Black Campers also provides outdoor education programs throughout the year.
