LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Dare to Care Food Bank honored the legacy of the little boy who inspired the organization's creation.
Wednesday, the organization and community honored 9-year old Bobby Ellis, who died more than 50 years ago on Thanksgiving Eve in Louisville, vowing no child would ever go hungry again in the city.
There was also a food giveaway held in Bobby's memory.
"When I think about that, the fact that we live in the wealthiest country in the world, and yet we have people dying of malnutrition in that time, community leaders came together and said that can never happen again," Vincent James, Dare to Care CEO, said. "Faith and community leaders came together and said never again, and from that heartbreak, Dare to Care was born."
