LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A group of Jefferson County Public Schools students and staff is helping families in need.
Each Monday, the group unloads food and other donations for a community outreach project they started at the end of the school year.
They sort through the donations, box them up and deliver them to JCPS families in need.
The project started at Southern High School, but expanded to involve people from 17 different schools.
The group has helped more than 100 families in just four weeks, most of them immigrant families.
"We're just grateful that the community understood the assignment and that they've gathered together to join us together to do this work," Mario Gouvea Ransan, a Southern High School teacher leading the project, said. "But it's been amazing, but also heartfelt work."
