LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jeffersontown Police Department now has a therapy K-9.

The department announced the addition of "Luke" on social media. The pooch is a one-and-a-half-year-old Labradoodle that came to the department from the nonprofit organization Dogs Helping Heroes.

Jeffersontown Police said he will play an essential role in supporting the mental health and well-being of those in the department, and Luke may also be present during victim interviews and court proceedings.

"His calming presence will help reduce stress, improve mental health, and boost morale, especially during difficult moments and after traumatic incidents. Luke's role is part of our ongoing commitment to prioritizing mental health and wellness," the post said.

Luke, who has the rank of "goodest boy," is being trained by Double H Canine Training Academy. He is expected to be fully part of the department by April.
