LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local grassroots organization hit a milestone Sunday, serving the city's homeless community for 500 Sundays in a row.
Hip Hop Cares has been providing meals, clothing, toiletries and other essentials since January 2016.
Sunday's "Sunday Serve" took place under the Broadway overpass between First and Brook streets in downtown Louisville.
Volunteers and donations are what help keep the mission going. The organization's founder, Jeff Gill, said it's changing lives.
"I just decided to be nice in all situations, even when it was really hard," Gill said. "That is why the core beliefs of Hip Hop Cares are love, unity, hope, respect and community."
Every week, a meal is provided—often from local restaurants. Some of the donated items include shoes, clothing and blankets.
