Bissell Pet Foundation 'Empty the Shelters'

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky animal shelters are reducing fees in hopes of finding new homes for pets in need.

From Oct. 1-15, the BISSELL Pet Foundation will host its Fall National Empty the Shelters event to help empty shelters that are currently over capacity. 

You can adopt spayed or neutered, vaccinated pets at participating shelters for $50 or less.

Below is a complete list of participating shelters:

"Right now, our nation’s animal shelters are in crisis with too many pets coming in and not enough adoptions to keep up," said Cathy Bissell, who founded the BISSELL Pet Foundation in 2011. "Euthanasia rates have hit a 3-year-high, and healthy, adoptable pets are at risk due to space constraints."

Empty the Shelters is the nation’s largest funded adoption event, according to a new release. Nearly 283,000 pets have found homes across in the U.S. and Canada since its inception in 2016. 

An average of 1,225 pets are adopted each day of during the quarterly national Empty the Shelters event, according to a news release.
