LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some local animal shelters are asking for help as they face overcrowding.
Louisville Metro Animal Services said Thursday it's at Code Red, meaning there are no open kennels. The current pet population there is at risk the moment another stray dog comes in.
LMAS said the community can help by containing their pets. Keep them on a leash and check to make sure gates are closed before letting them outside.
The shelter is looking for people to adopt and foster pets. All dogs over 40 pounds are free to adopt.

On the other side of the Ohio River, the Floyd County Animal Rescue League in southern Indiana said Wednesday it is in "desperate need" of foster homes for dogs because shelters are "extremely full."
The shelter said it will provide fosters with all supplies and veterinary care.
Officials are also encouraging people to spay and neuter their pets.
Those interested in fostering in southern Indiana can send the animal rescue league a message on Facebook, here, call them at (812) 949-9099 or email events@floydcountyanimals.org.
